Bridge closure beginning July 7

Note: The bridge closure was originally reported as July 9. The correct date is Tuesday, July 7, 2020.

The NC Department of Transportation has announced that Haywood Road (Business US 23) between Dillsboro and Sylva will be closed at the bridge over Scotts Creek and the railroad beginning July 7. Construction is expected to last for approximately 9 months, and will affect travel to The Meditation Center from US 441 in either direction.

At some point, a parallel road will be available on a temporary basis to bypass the construction site, but for several months, there will be no way to get to Sylva via Haywood Road.

We have posted alternate routes for visitors coming to The Meditation Center from US 441 in either direction. Please visit our Hours and Directions page for specific recommendations based on your location.

Update October 2020

The NC Department of Transportation has finished the first phase of the construction project. Because of this, it is possible to drive between Dillsboro and Sylva on a detour that follows local streets linked by a temporary bridge over Scotts Creek. Haywood Road (Business US 23) remains closed until all construction is completed.

We highly recommend using the alternate routes listed on our Hours and Directions page.

Update April 2021

The road project is complete, and the new bridge was opened to traffic on April 9.
