PayPal issues

PayPal is a wonderful convenience, but occasionally they have problems.

If you use the “Donate with a Debit or Credit Card” option in PayPal, sometimes the Country/Region code gets arbitrarily stuck on the wrong country and will not let you make a payment. This can be reset by clearing the cookies for PayPal in your web browser, after which it should default to United States.

Solution 1: Clear your browser cache and type your address in manually

Below are instructions for the some of the most popular browsers. Even if your browser is not listed, the process should be similar.

Select browser:
    Google Chrome
    1. Go to the PayPal website.
    2. Click on the padlock icon, then click on the Cookies section of the popup window
    1. In the Cookies in use window click the Remove button, then Done.
    1. Return to the donation process.
    2. When you are prompted to enter your billing address, type it in manually. Do not use the address prefill option if it is presented to you.
    Microsoft Edge

    These instructions are identical to Google Chrome:

    1. Go to the PayPal website.
    2. Click on the padlock icon, then click on the Cookies section of the popup window
    1. In the Cookies in use window click the Remove button, then Done.
    1. Return to the donation process.
    2. When you are prompted to enter your billing address, type it in manually. Do not use the address prefill option if it is presented to you.
    Mozilla Firefox
    1. Go to the PayPal website
    2. Click on the padlock, then click Clear Cookies and Site Data…
    1. You will see a list of cookies with paypal.com in the name. Click the Remove button.
    1. Return to the donation process.
    2. When you are prompted to enter your billing address, type it in manually. Do not use the address prefill option if it is presented to you.
    Solution 2: Set up a PayPal account

    When you set up a PayPal account, you log into PayPal with your user ID and password. You can then use the Donate with PayPal option, which uses your saved card information, eliminating the need to enter an address. You can set this up as part of the Solution 1 process above by selecting the “Remember my information” checkbox before you submit your donation.

    Note: PayPal may encourage you to enter your personal checking account information. This is not necessary, unless you want to make donations as electronic debits directly from your account instead of using a card. We recommend using the debit/credit card option when using PayPal, as it gives you more protections.
